Satellite Show Daily Forum
(continued
from page 2)
Chuck Hewitt, SBCA: Without question the biggest
story since last years show has been the success of local-into-local.
We knew that this would drive consumers to satellite TV who were
unwilling to use over-the-air antennas. The percentage of new
subscribers who are opting to take local channels definitively
shows how popular being able to receive local broadcast signals
via satellite is with consumers.
Christine Sheehan, MTV Networks: The most important
development in the satellite TV industry is the capacity to deliver
local channels, and the most exciting is the interactive capabilities
that satellite TV will be able to offer. There is no doubt that
satellite TV will meet the consumer where they are with whatever
interactive services they want. In fact, satellite TV will probably
deliver more interactive services than customers could possibly
ever use.
Allen McCabe, Hughes Network Systems: Local channels...Hands
down.
Mike Schroeder, Klingon High Council: The advent
of the multiple function receivers, giving the customer HDTV,
TiVo/Replay TV flexibility, and Web access.
Mark Pagon, Pegasus Satellite: The passage of [the
satellite TV bill last year] and the introduction of local-into-local
in almost 30 TV markets in the U.S.
Jeff Crabtree, Metron North America: Seeing the
industry respond to the challenge of developing programs, products
and services that propel us to the forefront of the interactive
household.
John Ovrutsky, Home Box Office: Since last years
SBCA show, the satellite TV industry has started some interesting
developments in the area of interactive media, bringing new services
into the homes of consumers. The satellite TV industry is looking
ahead to the future of television by expanding the services provided
by such companies as AOL TV, TiVo, OpenTV, WebTV, Wink, and others.
HBO is pleased that HDTV is available to C-band, DISH Network,
and DirecTv customers. We look forward to the technological advances
that satellite television can provide its customers.
