Satellite Show Daily Forum
(continued
from page 2)
Chuck Hewitt, SBCA: There will always be a need for
a national show for the satellite industry because it: Provides
opportunities for retailers to see new products, meet suppliers,
and continue their education and training; Provides a venue for
business-to-business interaction to take place; Presents our
industry a national public relations platform; Delivers an opportunity
for members of all segments of our membership to discuss policy,
legislative, and regulatory concerns...We expect to expand the
conference portion of the show to create a greater value for
both retailers and suppliers. Programmers, too, will play a major
role in this expansion.
Christine Sheehan, MTV Networks: The future
of the SBCA is bright, but not without challenges. It is clearly
critical to the success of the SBCA to have participation from
as many programmers as possible. To do this, we think it is critical
to find more economical ways to encourage better participation
for both the programmers and DBS operators. It is also equally
important to provide more meaningful opportunities for programmers
and DBS operators to learn from each other.
Allen McCabe, Hughes Network Systems: I still think
its important. We get lost as an industry at CES or Comdex. We
need a show to talk satellite. As long as there is so much new
technology coming out, we need the forum to talk to our distributors
and dealers. Retailers need a place to go to see the latest stuff.
Mike Schroeder, Klingon High Council: The SBCA show
is a changing format. There are different facets of the industry
on display, and as we become more diversified, like two-way [data
services], the show and the SBCA will play an even bigger role.
Programming has been the primary reason for getting a system.
However, there are other opportunities that will share the customer
and compete for the customer dollars.
Mark Pagon, Pegasus Satellite: With the introduction
of new, advanced digital services, including DARS, interactive
TV, broadband Internet via satellite, as well as streaming services
via satellite and local-into-local in most TV markets, new programmers,
vendors, service providers and manufacturers will enter the business
and this will enable the SBCA Show [properly focused] to grow.
Jeff Crabtree, Metron North America: The
future of the SBCA show will be dependent upon the value of equipment
and technology brought to the industry through its retailers
and vendors. As long as there are participants, there will be
an SBCA show. We do not foresee a lack of participation in the
future. Within a dynamic industry, there will always be some
level of change, and that is expected.
