ECHOSTAR IN TIVO 'WORKAROUND' CASE
The appeals
process was already well underway at press time, but The EchoStar
Corp.-Dish Network Inc. camp recently suffered yet another thorough
legal drubbing in its long-running patent litigation fight with
TiVo Inc. If the ruling is eventually upheld, EchoStar-Dish Network
could end up paying more than $100 million in damages, as well
as face the prospect of having to turn off the recording functions
of millions of receivers in the field or reach a potentially
expensive settlement with TiVo.

UP STATE TAX FIGHT
The DirecTv
Group Inc. took to the skies above Bostons Fenway Park
earlier this month to air the satellite TV industrys objections
to an idea state lawmakers in Massachusetts were floating at
press time to impose a 5 percent tax on satellite TV service.

on what new satellite TV legislation should look like than they

After
six years at the helm of The DirecTv Group Inc., and a plan in
place to combine the company with Liberty Media Corp.s
Liberty Entertainment and then split off DirecTv, Chase Carey
resigned his post as president and chief executive officer of
the DBS company to return to his roots at News Corp.
