Radio Shack is in final stages of closing out private label Optimus line of DirecTv/USSB hardware, which was made by Uniden America. Chain will now focus on selling Thomson's RCA line for DirecTv/USSB, as well as Primestar systems. Move also ends, at least temporarily, Uniden's role in consumer satellite business, which company once dominated...Several executives-including Showtime's Gene Falk, USSB's Stan Hubbard, EchoStar's John Reardon, and Primestar's Dan O'Brien-will participate in Showtime-sponsored satellite media tour from show floor today. Among channels involved are CNBC, Fox News Channel, and various local stations around country...SBCA is considering several cities for its shows in 2001 and beyond, after next two annual meetings in Las Vegas. Among cities under consideration are Minneapolis, Denver, Orlando, and Nashville, though talk show could return to Opryland Hotel instantly led to controversy, given widespread and loud complaints about hotel in recent years...For those not taking notes yesterday during Don King's keynote address, following is partial list of King's recommended reading and famous quotes: "Rip Van Winkle," by Washington Irving; Les Miserables, by Victor Hugo; "Self Reliance," by Emerson, Profiles In Courage, by John F. Kennedy, "Manifest Destiny," by James Polk, "You Can't Take it With You," by King Tut; "A Chicken in Every Pot," by Herbert Hoover; and selected collections by Plato, Socrates, Euripedes, and Andrew Jackson. And, of course, The Bible. Whether King is being considered to host program on History Channel next was not immediately clear.

is offering a new promotion in which it will waive its $19.95 pay-per-view sign-up fee for new customers and give them one free pay-per-view movie when they purchase a special event or an NFL Sunday Ticket subscription through Dec. 27...NFL Sunday Ticket launched an Internet site yesterday at www.nflsundayticket.com. The site includes game schedules and information on residential and commercial subscription options...Primestar is running a virtual game show in the Primestar Theater in its booth during the show. Contestants compete for prizes...NBA Hall of Famer Walt Frazier, a member of the 1970 and 1973 NBA champion New York Knicks teams, will appear the the ESPN booth today to sign autographs from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.
