Inside [Show] Business
Virgina Governor James Gilmore was among dignitaries making rounds
of CES floor yesterday, accompanied by his states Secretary
of Technology, Donald Upon. Both also sat down with CEMA President
Gary Shapiro to discuss industry issues. Gilmore was recently
appointed by House Commerce Committee to Internet oversight panel
charged with ensuring tax-free Internet commerce...Speaking of
Gilmore, state trooper accompanying him to Las Vegas inadvertently
left keys in car at airport when he went into airport to greet
governor. Car was stolen, which eventually led to chase with
local police, resulting in shooting of alleged perpetrator...Sen.
Pat Leahy (D-Vt.) is getting more involved in local signal debate,
urging broadcasters to grant dish owners waivers of Satellite
Home Viewer Act restrictions against network signal reception
via satellite. Stay tuned.

SPECIAL OFFERS FROM THE EXHIBIT FLOORS SATELLITE SECTION:
Homeowners Marketing Services plans to hold a drawing at the
show for $1,000 worth of sales leads for satellite dealers. The
company sells a subscription service mailing list of new home
buyers in a retailers market, which can be customized by
zip code, county, or other area based on the retailers
needs. In addition to the drawing, Homeowners is offering a discount
on new annual subscriptions during the show. The company will
waive the regular down-payment and start a new retailers
mailing list subscription for $1 when the retailer signs up during
the show...Pro Brand International is offering a promotion enabling
satellite dealers to earn free products when they buy SuperJack
II-Plus C-band actuators. Each actuator purchase earns the retailer
one point toward other SuperJack or Aspen Eagle products, such
as diplexers, amplifiers, and multi-switches...North American
Cable Equipment, a satellite accessories distributor, is offering
a free radial crimp tool with every 10,000 connectors a retailer
buys, or a $30 discount on the tool with 2,500 connectors and
$60 off with the purchase of 5,000 connectors...The Kit Company,
which markets self-installation kits for DBS reception systems,
has several special offers available during the show. The companys
DirecTv/USSB kit is on sale for $18.95, and its DISH Network
kits are on sale for $16.95 and $17.95. The kits are available
through the Kit Company or ORourke Brothers Distributing.
