Satellite Broadcasting and Communications Association recently
ended its contract with public relations firm Dobbin Bolgla,
longtime satellite TV industry presence with several companies.
Firm had represented SBCA for past several years on non-legislative
matters...Heres wishing Thomson Consumer Electronics chief
Jim Meyer quick recovery from body-surfing accident that broke
two vertebrae in his neck. Neck brace is reportedly not simply
attempt to skirt Thomsons suit-and-tie dress code...Pop
quiz: What industry CEO, who happens to be graduate of University
of Tennessee, was spotted Monday night with what U.S. senator,
who happens to be eyeing run for White House, at Fiesta Bowl,
which happened to be in senators home state? Inquiring
minds want to know...DirecTv is stepping up level of activity
in Consumer Electronics Manufacturers Association, partially
in recognition of critical role major CE chains play in sales
of DirecTv/USSB reception systems and programming. In addition
to DirecTv President Eddy Hartensteins new role as member
of CEMA board of directors, company plans to become more involved
in CEMA communications and public relations efforts this year.
Satellite Industry News Briefs
Terk Technologies plans to introduce today the TV41 and TV42two
new off-air antennas today that clip onto a DBS dish for easy
installation. Another new antennathe TV60HDis Terks
first antenna designed to optimize reception of digital off-air
signals...Channel Master also plans to introduce new off-air
antenna products. The Model 9537 and 9521 Antenna Rotator Controllers
can turn an outdoor antenna by infrared remote control and store
up to 69 channels in memory. They retail for $69.95 and $99.95,
respectively. Channel Master will also release a new StealthTenna
off-air antenna with retail price of less than $60...The Consumer
Electronics Manufacturers Association hopes to drive participation
in its Citizen Action Network lobbying group with a drawing during
the show. CEMA members who sign up for Citizen Action Network
at the CEMA booth in the convention center are automatically
entered in a drawing to win one of six electronics products:
An RCA DirecTv/USSB system, a Replay TV box, a set of Polk Audio
loudspeakers, a Casio Business Organizer, a Sony Mavica Camera,
or a Sharp MiniDisc player.
